Uncategorized My baba is 96, and she is sharp as a tack. My brothers and I called her baba next door (cause she lived next door :). Sure she doesn’t get around like she used to but she can quote and discuss her youth as it happened yesterday. Growing up my baba used to watch me a lot when my parents were @ work, we were summer buddies (my other baba was my summer buddy too). I learned some of the most basic etiquette rules from my baba…elbows off the table, eat everything on your plate, say please and thank you. She taught me how to French braid my own hair and to make perogies, to cut grass and to plant a garden. She showed me that love of family doesn’t have to be expressed as a hug, it sometimes can be taught as a lesson. I’m eternally grateful that she has been at my side for some of the biggest moments in my life. I love my baba next door and the best part is I know I mean the world to her too. She’s the bomb! Uncategorized Tonight I write about a current student who received an award earlier this evening for an advanced math exam. Ziwei is a girl who came into my life in September of this year, or rather she exploded into my career. Needless to say that she is an amazing math student, she understands it on a ridiculous level that I cannot even fathom. When she first came into my class it was like whiplash…. I had to really clean up my style and stay on my toes. Over this school year I have gotten to know her quite well, and I have come to realize that she is a humble, caring young women who is driven to build a life for herself that has no boundaries. She has revived my need to learn math again… I’m so thankful that I was able to teach such a gifted young lady and I look forward to seeing her grow into her education and her career…will she design bridges, perform surgery, crunch numbers? No one knows, but I am so excited to stay in touch with her for her ride. Posted on April 29, 2014 by kelly Continue reading →
Uncategorized Out of all the people that I have encountered in my life, I hope these 2 know exactly how I feel about them. If it is one thing I have strived for since I have had my kids, it has been for them to have a full life. Every trip we take, group we join, friends we encounter, family that we grow to love, it all coughs up to one thing, and that’s our experience on earth. I hope they remember our experience and know that I did it all for them, and that I loved them madly…to the moon and back. Posted on April 29, 2014 by kelly Continue reading →
Uncategorized We have made a million miles with our friendship. Dare I say we met almost 30 years ago! Over the years we have had so many ridiculous adventures, ringette, baseball, soccer and everything in between! We took fun to whole different level in our early 20’s! Now that we have eased into our families and have experienced growing pains she is always the first call I make when I need an ear to bend. Our weekly camping trip is a tradition that I hope our grandchildren will enjoy in the future. She is undoubtedly one of my very dearest of friends. Together we cry, laugh, discuss, debrief our lives, usually in very animated ways. I am so glad that we have found each other, my lobster. Posted on April 28, 2014 by kelly Continue reading →
Uncategorized Today I will post about a student that has sadly left my classroom this week. Dillon probably doesn’t know how much he brought to my day or our classroom. In meeting Dillon I was able to meet his foster dad Randy, who is one of the most structured and loving parents that Dillon has ever encountered. A firm hand goes a far way. At times when Dillon was sometimes lead astray he would be reigned in again by his dad. He struggled with math, but excelled @ being a respectful young man. I’m sure sad to see him go… I pray that he makes good decisions so that he can have a good life. Posted on April 28, 2014 by kelly Continue reading →
Uncategorized These are my people. We see each other roughly 200 days of the year…plus the fun extra days too ;). They are my go-to people. I’m so blessed to share such a great profession with such great people. Posted on April 27, 2014 by kelly Continue reading →
Uncategorized I had the privilege to meet many great people when I taught at the school in Powerview. It was super scary to start my career there, but man was it worth it. I was able to make many connections in that great community. I met this gal when she was in grade 11. While she was a quiet, hardworking student, she was a hoot to hang out with! We built a pretty tight bond and had many giggles along the way. Not to long ago she married a family friend, I’m so thankful that I will get to watch her grow into her life. Uncategorized I had the privilege of coaching a group of girls from grade 9 all the way to grade12. They were a ton of fun to be around, a ball of high energy sending good karma to all. Best part about them is that they were not afraid of what people thought about them. They showed high spirit for all school events and always wanted to have fun. Best part is that even now, years later they are still a tight knit group of gals that continue to enrich each other’s lives and our community. Love it. Uncategorized She’s my person. She knows my facial expressions down to an art. She could order my lunch and know to ask for no onions. She’s a rockstar of a mom, devoted wife unwavering daughter, supportive sister and one of my dearest of friends. I’m so thankful everyday that she came into my life. I pray to god everyday that we will be together for the rest of our careers, because I can’t imagine existing in this world without her. Posted on April 25, 2014 by kelly Continue reading →
