June 1st: Diva, my green 8 yr old mare competed in her first competition. I had purchased her in september last year as a horse who knew only the very basics. I knew she had potential, but as we progress into a team, the more and more i am learning about this little mare. She has learned so much, so quickly. Her heart is in it as much as my own, she’s an over achiever with a sassy and sweet personality. Always more than willing to go that extra mile. On June 1st, all of our hard work really paid off. She was beyond perfect, coming into this busy and scary environment more focused and prepared than she ever had been in training. She was ready to get out there and make her mark. And she did, she took everything into stride and really shocked people, being a “just started” horse is a label that most people hear and don’t see much from. I knew this horse had potential, but ever day she proves to have more than had i thought even just the previous day. I find it almost unrealistic when i see her, this little horse with a massive ego and presence just enjoying being a horse, grazing. I have to keep reminding myself that no, she in fact does not have hidden wings.
