This past year I spent two months volunteering at a medical clinic in Cusco Peru. One of my first days there a few of us helped out a local doctor run a dental clinic at a local school. We spent all day handing out free toothbrushes and showing hundreds of kids how to properly brush their teeth. As they mimicked us, we could see a lot of them already has multiple cavities. Knowing how to properly brush my teeth and always having a toothbrush and toothpaste available to me was never a question in my life. It’s something so simple, and yet these kids were thrilled to get a toothbrush and learn. It made me re-examine my life and every little thing I have taken for granted in the past. Although we went there to teach them something, those kids ended up teaching me so much more. I will always be grateful for this experience and all of those smiles.
